ACC CONTERN

To honour the greatest luxembourgish sportsman of the century, Charly Gaul, the ACC Contern wanted to organise a race with his name. And it was only natural that this race should be charactrized by climbs, his favourite terrain. A first event was organized in form of an uphill time trial for professional riders on the côte de Breedewee in Luxembourg downtown, but then it was decided to open the event for everyone. Since 1990, the "La Charly Gaul" is a cyclo-sport event or Gran Fondo, a leisure race allowing each year between 500 and 1500 more or less experienced or fit riders to discover the luxembourgish countryside, its beautifull roads and sometimes tough hills.
